Shopify paused your payouts. Your store is still selling. Your money isn't arriving.
A review can take weeks, and if Shopify Payments is disabled the balance is typically held for about 120 days. Here's how to keep the business funded while it plays out.
What the message means
"Your payouts are on hold while we review your account" means Shopify Payments (which runs on Stripe) is checking your dispute pattern, your fulfillment, or a change in what you sell or how much. Orders keep coming in, but payouts stop until the review ends. If it ends with Shopify Payments disabled, Shopify typically holds the balance for around 120 days to cover disputes.
Merchants in Shopify's own forums report holds and disablements at dispute rates around 0.4%, well under the 1% many people assume is the line. A cluster of disputes in a short window, a young store, or a holiday shipping backlog is often enough.
What to do this week
- Send what they asked for the same day: supplier invoices, tracking numbers, business registration, policies. Slow replies extend the review.
- Pull your dispute and refund rates by week for the last 90 days. If there is a cluster, be ready to explain the cause and what changed.
- Add a second payment provider to the store. Shopify lets you run a third party gateway alongside or instead of Shopify Payments. A merchant account with its own bank doesn't pause when Shopify's review does.
- Decide whether to keep Shopify Payments at all for this category. Many stores in supplements, wellness and subscriptions run a dedicated merchant account as the primary and keep Shopify Payments for low risk SKUs, or drop it.
What we do. A 15 minute risk read: what in your numbers likely triggered the review, what to send, and what a dedicated merchant account on your store would look like, with a bank that underwrites your products. Free, no pitch. Gateway setup is 24 to 48 hours once an account is approved.
